MEDICATION USED FOR

Clotrimazole is used to treat skin infections such as athlete’s foot, jock itch, ringworm, and other fungal skin infections (candidiasis). Clotrimazole is an anti-fungal medication used to treat yeast infections of the vagina, skin, and mouth. It is commonly used for athlete’s foot, jock itch, body ringworm, and oral thrush.

INDICATIONS 

For the treatment of cutaneous candidiasis.

For the treatment of oropharyngeal candidiasis (thrush).

Clotrimazole topical cream is indicated for the topical treatment of the following dermal infections 

Tinea pedis, tinea cruris, and tinea corporis due to Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum

Candidiasis due to Candida albicans

Tinea versicolor due to Malassezia furfur

Diaper rash infected by Candida albicans

In some preparations, clotrimazole may be combined with betamethasone dipropionate, a corticosteroid.

MECHANISM OF ACTION 

Clotrimazole is derivative which works by inhibiting the growth of individual Candida or fungal cells by altering the permeability of the fungal cell wall. It binds to phospholipids in the cell membrane and inhibits the biosynthesis of ergosterol and other sterols required for cell membrane production.
